Around the lemon

From February 13th to 28th, 2027In 1928, Menton was still the number one lemon-growing region in Europe. An hotelier had the excellent idea of organising an exhibition of flowers and citrus fruit in the gardens of the Hôtel Riviera. It was so successful that, the following year, the event moved into the streets, with carts covered with orange and lemon.
Wishing to develop tourism, the municipality sought to give to this new event a typically local colour
The Lemon Festival was born in 1934
The Lemon of Menton obtained the recognition of its specificity and its excellence by a protected geographical index in 2015. This citrus fruit is for Menton an essential part of its history and its heritage.

The "Fête du Citron®" (Lemon Festival), an unique event in the world, attracts more than 250,000 visitors every year. For more than 15 days, come and enjoy the zest-flavored of Golden parades and Night-time parades(parades of citrus floats and animated by groups), admire the Exhibition of citrus patterns in the gardens Biovès; not forgetting to visit the Crafts Fair and the Festival of Orchids with unforgettable scents. Come and discover this fantasy world, and move to the rhythm of a simply unforgettable event.

In 1929, Menton was still the leading lemon producer on the continent. A hotelier had the idea of organizing an exhibition of flowers and citrus fruits in the gardens of the Riviera Hotel. The success was such that the following year, the festival took to the streets: carts with bushes planted with oranges and lemons paraded through the city.
The Lemon Festival® was born in 1934.

It's true, the lemons that adorn the patterns of the Lemon Festival® do not come from Menton.
After all, yes, Menton lemon is a rare product, especially since it has a protected geographical indication (PGI).
The entire production of Menton would not be sufficient to create the sumptuous citrus compositions that make the reputation of this Festival.

The simplest way is to reach Menton via the ZOU ! network (located less than 200 meters from the entrance of our events).
During the Sunday parades, it is strongly recommended to arrive in Menton before 11am.
